I was looking at the GGD and 3rd Rail sites last night and saw that Scott Mann is doing a re-run of his beautiful Slumbercoaches. Even though my maximum curve in 0-42, I will most likely order one of these just to say that I have one!
I also recall that there was previous mention from people on the OGR forum that his GGD 0-42 passenger car sets did not get a lot of reservations even though people were excited about his new venture into semi-scale passenger cars. Here is my two cents on why that is: most semi-scale modelers have some version of the 20th century limited, Broadway limited, or Daylight in their roster.
BUT we do not have a wide variety of sleeper cars.
So here is my idea:
What if Scott made 0-42 Slumbercoaches? To my knowledge, other manufacturers have only made "cookie-cutter" sleepers in the past for semi-scale. Scott could sell them in the same liveries that his scale cars are being offered (B&O, NYC, PC, NP, CB&Q, MPAC, AMTRAK, & BN). This could appeal to a wider audience in the semi-scale market. Th only problem I see is a possible lack of pre-orders and I do not know if this car can be shrunk down to 0-42.
To all fellow semi-scale modelers,
What do you think? Would you pre-order a semi-scale/0-42 Slumbercoach if Scott announced it?
