IMG_3308I just bought this set on the Bay and am curious exactly what set it is. It looks to be mostly complete with the exception of the transformer, smaller boxes, and some smaller bits and pieces. The set has a 2018, 1130T, 6014, 6112, 6121, and 6257. Most of the components and literature date to either 1956 and 1957.

1957 Issued set # 1577S or #729.  ISn't there a number on the box shown in photo?

I looked up those two sets and they didn't quite match. I did see a 1547S set that looked like a match. I'm sure there is a number on the box but I couldn't see it in any of the pictures on the listing. I'll find out when everything arrives in the mail next week though. Thought I would get ahead of the curve and start the process of obtaining everything I need.

The set # 1547S is a close match except for the tender. It's an 027 set from 1956, according to Greenberg's guide you should have a # 6026T tender, otherwise it is a complete match for # 1547S.

I just realized the tender is a 6026T. I'm not sure why I noted it as an 1130T... Thanks Lee!

The Standard Catalog of Train Sets (Doyle) shows the components you have listed, but with two items of rolling stock missing.  The two missing items are 6111 with logs, and a 6464-475 Boston & Maine boxcar.  The 6112 should also have canisters.  The correct Caboose for this set (if it is in fact 1577S) should be a 6017 SP caboose, 8 curve track, 3 straight, 6029 uncoupling track, 1015 45 W xfrmer, lock on and lubricant.

Thanks for the info TeleDoc. Sounds like there are quite a few different or missing components between the 1577S and what I have. I'm leaning towards the possibility that it is a 1547S as all of the major components match up.

IMG_3387Just got the set today so I thought I'd update everyone! It is in fact a 1547S as the box indicates. It is nearly complete with just the transformer and a few small things missing. Does anyone know if the tender and freight cars were boxed? I assume they were as they would've otherwise been loose in the box. I've attached a photo of the set contents layed out before I go about cleaning and servicing things.

Lionel used cardboard dividers to separate the contents. As you probably know, those original pieces of cardboard are worth their weight in gold, enjoy your new outfit.

Thanks for the info John! I might make my own dividers to use when I store this set. I will enjoy running this set around the tree this year!
