President and CEO with chairman of the board for good measure
Work in the do-little sit-more dept. or play hide & seek for 2K a week!
Sitting in leadership chairs were too much of a hassle, so no more executive positions. I enjoyed being a pilot and out on the road, so being the train's engineer would be my choice. I'm pre-digital, so a company's steam program would be perfect.
Ron
I'd say Steam Engineer but I'm to happy to get that job...
So I guess CEO, CFO, and large and in charge. Maybe I can then be responsible for making my Steam Engineers happy. Probably a monumental task for sure. LOL!
As one Santa Fe employee told me once: "young man, there is a BIG difference between workin' on them, and playin' with them!"
I would want to be a telegraph operator.
Vice-President in charge of looking out the window...
Rusty
My job would locomotive engineer for Norfolk Southern, BNSF, or Union Pacific. I plan on staying in Illinois so either UP's Rock Ford sub, BNSF's Aurora sub, or one of Northfolk Southern's yards in Chicago. One thing that would be cool if I did work for UP is that I would get to work with Dave Hawley.
Owner and head operator. Actually, that's the job I have now!
I'd take head of marketing. You still get to be around the trains, but you get to be creative about what you do as well.
I'd want to be a dispatcher or track maintenance. NO executive type job for me-- I prefer working for a living.
I'd be the top exec and sole owner. As such will climb aboard and take over an engine anytime I feel like it. Will walk in to all shops and facilities and tell them how to run things for an hour. Employees must follow my expert advice and they take the blame for all failures. I would also head the real estate dep't and constantly try to grab more space for the railroad....
That's a tough one. How about Chief of Passenger Train Operations.
Work my way to engineer. A hands on job.
Derek's assistant. LOCOMOTION
I would be the Director of Marketing and Public Relations!!
Alan
Probably something in the Communications department...media relations, financial communications (if we were publicly held) something like that, since that's what I did in the "real world."
However, if I could I would create a new position, "O Gauge Attache'" where my responsibilities would consist of working with train companies that wanted to model our products, and traveling around the country visiting O Gauge layouts.

Signal and communication, computer maintenance.
Engineer of course! But I'm too old to work my way up from Brakeman, so a more realistic position would be in IT management or data analytics.
Train conductor based out of the caboose. What better way to see America in a semi-private room.
I would work part-time as an engineer on the B&O F units running passenger service.
Rick
Railroad Mogul!
I'd do it all.
My uncle was an engineer on the Pennsylvania, operating the great GG1's. I wish that I would have followed in his footsteps and worked for any railroad doing anything!
Rich in NH
Official Company Photographer
Passenger Ticket Agent/Telegraph Operator/Shipping Clerk/ ahh gues I'd need to invent a time machine first.
Engineer since I love to blow the horn/whistle .
Man in Black.. Bag'em Tag'em and send them to Groom Lake.
The guy who gets to tell GE to take a hike !
I guess I'd have to be the guy who polishes the tombstones, as the RR I model went belly-up and the tracks pulled out in 1950 and all the employees have since passed on...
Fireman on a Big Boy Steam Locomotive. That is the story of my life. Similar to the Fireman: Shoveling the Coal into the boiler. Keeps you in shape also.
Since I'm pretty good on the computer, I'd feel comfortable as a train dispatcher at the control hub.
But of course, being the engineer is the ultimate dream.
Engineer (design). Oh, wait. That's my job now. Well looks like I've already got my job on my model railroad!
Gilly
This is an easy one: bartender on the 20th Century Limited circa 1938. Martini anyone?
I'd probably be put in charge of making the tea!
The guy who sits next to the transformer watching the trains go around the track.
Nicole: I'm sure I've heard steam engines refered to as "tea kettles", so I guess that would make you the Driver?
