I wish I could remember the forumite that posted pictures of a very creative project that he made for a flat car load.  I liked it so much that I wanted to duplicate his idea.  Thank you - whoever you were.  RATS - I'm really disappointed in myself that I don't remember the name because I wrote it down at the time so that if I ever did "his" project that I could thank him.  Maybe he'll see this.

Anyway, it was a fun one day project.

I didn't want to permanently attach things to the flat car so I used a stiff piece of cardboard, sprayed with adhesive, attached the figures and then dumped sand all over.  Let it dry and then used tachy (whatever that stretchy stuff is called) to attach the cardboard to the flat car.

I liked the idea of having a manger so I crafted one out of thin wood:

Closeup (NO: the Baby Jesus figure is not covered in straw!  I don't know what that is in the picture!):

Walt,

This is the one I did under Christmas tree on my layout.

P1010677

This set was purchased from:

http://www.christianbook.com/t...tivity-play/pd/78396

It was under $20, and even if this isn't the flatcar you were thinking of, these might be a good set of figures to work with for others interested in a set of cars.... good height, colorful, decent base to secure to car (one of the wisemen, was a little unstable, but aren't we all sometimes?)

The figures, obviously, are no where near scale size.  But I liked that about these figures.

I bought them years ago at Michael's with the intent of making a smaller-than-scale manger scene outside my Plastruc church, which I have done a few times over the years on my Christmas layout.  After recently seeing what is being credited to cSam (I have no reason to say he wasn't my inspiration) I knew these figures were destined to be on a flat car scene!

I picked up this flat car at this past York for $10 specific for this project and another I have in mind - which is why I didn't permanently attach anything to the car itself.
