Check out the full story here via TRAINS magazine article on the new Portland home of #4449 and it's two buddies...

Those of you who live nearby should visit one last time before the Brooklyn Roundhouse is torn down.  Maybe they should sell pieces of the old Brooklyn to help raise MORE funds for the new facility...

Nice article.  The new location is a lot better than the old one, at least in terms of visibility to the public.  I think this will be a boon to the preservation efforts of these locomotives.  Still, it would be nice to preserve the old Brooklyn roundhouse in miniature at least.  Any drawings or plans available for that?

It will be so great to have our treasures available for public viewing as well as well as haveing access to the rich heritage of these great icons of the steam era. Up untill now the only chance one has to see these trains is during the holiday season when they did their holiday excursions or if you are lucky you can sometimes see them when they are out on a special event. That was the case when my son and I were at the right place at the right time when the 4449 returned from Michigan. If one ever attends the National Train Day here in Portland you will see that you cannot get near the 4449 because of the crowds. Yes we Orgonians are proud of our treasures as well as our responsibility to preserve steam era history!

I have never seen the Daylight, however as a Child I remember clearly the day the T1 came through with the AFT due to eastern rail clearance problems on the old WM line to Baltimore.

It is good to hear of a new home turntable and all, but always bittersweet to hear of buildings being torn down.

There is quite a few structures built between 1880-1930 are being condemned for a variety of causes and must be torn down in my area.
