Hey members, I've searched and searched and I can't seem to find any train shops in NYC other than Trainland/Trainworld or Willis Hobbies and only Trainworld is in Brooklyn, NY. The other two are in Long Island. Are there any stores currently in NYC (Manhattan) that I can go to. I know the Grand Central and Macy's will have displays during the holidays but I'd like to do some early shopping. I'd appreciate any info that can be provided. THANKS AGAIN - MARSHELANGELO

not much in manhattan, but if you travel to Aberdeen NJ the Hobby Shop has a tremendous train section with at least a hundred engines on display along with all the accessories. they usually sell for msrp, but if you join their club (free) you can get a 10% discount I believe. even if you don't buy you will be able to see lots of stuff on display.
I was at the Red Caboose about 2 months ago, and I only went because I walked by it. It is a freak show to say the least. The guy who works there is just nasty and there is no other way to put it. Go to Willis or Nassau Hobby. Actually closer is Toms Trains in Ardsley. 25 min up the Westside Highway..
The Red Caboose and Alan S. on 45th. A real character. An Old New York experience.
There is another shop that does a lot of RC near E. State building but carries Bachmann HO/N/O. Blanking on the name.
Sorry you didn't find us, as we are also on Long Island. We are also sponsor's here and advertise in both OGR and CTT every month. Check out our web site. Nassauhobby.com or click below.

Nope. Owner retired several years ago (I think his rent was to escalate by some outlandish amount), and was selling off inventory at York in the small room in the northeast corner of Orange hall up to maybe a year or two ago. Haven't heard from him since.
I had ordered my Acela through his store, when it was delivered I met him at Penn Station to make the pick-up and payment, since he had closed the store by then.

Hey Charlie,
Is there not a Freeport stop on the Babylon line of the MTA Long Island RR within easy walking distance from your shop? Someone in Manhatten without a car could ride out a visit you easily, yes?
Bob
It is an easy ride from Penn station to Freeport, about 45 minutes. I grew up four stops after Charlie. It would also be about a five to ten minute cab ride to his store
All the best,
Miketg
We are 2 1/2 blocks south of the Freeport Station on Merrick Rd.
Ahhhh... did you try a Google search?

I live in Manhatten and did just that this summer for some D&H Sharks.
Thanks guys on the follow-ups, I went to the Red Caboose and got the same impression of the old guy down there, he's the one who got me frustrated and put out this request. I will visit Nassau Hobby within the next few weeks, and the other shops along the holiday season
