Another vote for Menard flatcars! You can add wooden decks or get their longer cars with wooden decks already added. I have both and like them and the price a lot!
...waiting for someone to poopoo the menards cars
come on- I know you're out there...
Wow! This is like when I first got on this forum and found out a lot of other people were gleefully bashing Plasticville buildings. Here I thought I was doing something unique when I added wooden floors and different trucks to Menards flats, and....see above....( the double tank vinegar car that is pictured in my Pickleville posting now running was built on a Menards flat car)
Bob, glad to hear from you! When I posted to this thread yesterday I was thinking of the stuff you do with flat cars and was hoping you would chime in with examples of what you have done with them! Great work!
Another source, one I use, is my LHS here in OKC. I let them know when I have a need for certain cars, such as used flats, and they acquire for me. I purchased 15 good, used, Lionel 11" flats for ten dollars each. For that price, it was great and have put all to use. Repaint, add wooden deck and decal for US Army Transportation Corps. Well, except for the occasional unusual variation I find, and put away in my collection.
