Ed,

I've got 3, and they are pretty nice models, for TMCC1.

The only issue that I have seen with regards to faithfulness is that the UP versions come with the FM trucks, and in real life they had the AAR trucks like ALCo used.  The Lionel ALCo sideframes can be swapped, and I looked into that before...

I have the NYC version...

Thanks,

Mario

The Lionel model represents the original version as styled by Raymond Loewy. Some railroads had these, others only acquired the second version, a simplified version lacking the distinctive rounded cab windows of the Loewy design. This version was often referred to as the "Baby Train Master." Lionel made a version painted for the Milwaukee Road, which did not have Loewy-style units. However, I'm still very happy to have mine. It's not quite prototypical for the Milwaukee, but it looks good, runs well enough (as well as can be expected with the early version of TMCC), and the Loewy design is better looking than the later one anyway.

I cannot believe I have not yet bored you with this - an H-16-66

As for the Baby Train Master, I always thought it was this one - also an H16-66:

All this is is an MTH with an inch removed at a strategic place.  It should have one fan plated over, but we were not being picky - 2- railers can get way with such omissions.  That is a K- Line coach.  What a bargain!

I've seen the terms "Baby Train Master" and "Junior Train Master" used to describe the H16-44 and/or H16-66 in a variety of printed sources. If there is a widely accepted convention tying a specific term to a specific model, I have not been able to figure it out - different sources use the terms for one locomotive or the other. I do wish MTH, or somebody, would make an H16-66. I have too many other projects to be optimistic about ever having time to cut down a Train Master to make one.

Baby Train Master was not a FM name.  It came from railfans and was applied to the later version H16-66.  I first heard that name back in the early 70's, referring to the C&NW and Milwaukee units used in iron ore service in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I like what Bob2 has done with his C&NW units.  The Northwestern had both the early Loewy style and later square window units.  I used to see the real things going by my house in Negaunee, Mich.
