Information on the repair of a Lionel Post War Tender Whistle

If you go to the Olsens web site, you will find a library with original Lionel documentation put together for use by their service station network. I don't know where you can find a more authoritative source.

Bill, thanks.  That should be a very interesting article.  Looking forward to it.  Will you include modern solid state alternatives to the original DC solenoid in the tender?  There's been some mixed reviews as to their performance.  It would be good to have your take on them.  Thanks.  

David, I don't know anything about those new alternatives.  Do they work for both the Lionel and the Gilbert units?

Doug Peck sells one - click here.  I've also run across some units ginned up by individuals.  No experience with them personally.  Been fortunate enough to have originals or rewound originals work. The electronic version(s), however, might be an improvement.  Similar story on the actuator side of this - original vs. aftermarket.  Would be great if you covered both.  Don't know about the O side or Lionel applicability of either.  Thanks. 

PS  If the Portline link doesn't work, go to parts and search on relay.  It will be the first line item.

Tom Barker's repair manual shows how to make a whistle control for the 314AW.  I bought the parts but haven't had time to assemble one.  The cost was around $20 for the parts.  Tom posted a video of it on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68R0kHoJPlw).
