I'm replacing a motor in my FT Santa Fe because the gears are worn out. I ordered the motor from Lionel and have put it in but after hooking up the wires, when I tested on the track it just would short out. I thought maybe I've got it in backwards turned it around- same result. Not sure what's going on.

One other thing to try. Unsolder both wires from the motor. Measure from each terminal to the metal motor body with an ohm meter. If you get continuity, the motor is defective. I ran across a can motor with this problem once before - drove me nuts until I found it.

Check the roller pickup wire. It is really easy when working on trucks to short these connections.
I think Bill may have hit it. I have run into that. Try one truck at a time unhooking the wires and see what you have. Not an uncommon issue.
