How do you do it?  To control an accessory that goes on when the train goes by, and then cuts out, like a crossing gate.  I bought a Lionel Fastrack "insulated track" thinking it would be the same as the old style insulated tracks.  Uh-uh.  It has metal pins everywhere the regular straights do.  The only difference I can see is the label underneath saying "insulated".

I worked around it by cutting off a pin on it and the next section, then inserting cardboard between.  It's not elegant, but it works.

To purchase one, you need an Accessory Activator Pack 6-12029.  It has the insulated straight, plus two half straights with breaks in the outer rail.

To make one, you can cut a break in the outer rail at each end of the block with a Dremel Tool, and then cut through the metal ties on the bottom.  You can do this with any piece of straight or curved and create any length of circuit you desire.
