Well Robert, way too little information to provide any useful help.
You might start with the actual Lionel product number, then move on to your operating environment, conventional or command (TMCC/Legacy). That would be a good start. How many engines have the issue, it is it all of them?
Do you use smoke fluid.
Could the smoke fluid have dripped onto an exposed surface of the sounds circuit board?
