As many of you intermodal fans/modelers know each mfg has created a proprietary container attachment system for their containers only. For Modelers, this is annoying because a modeler either has to focus on one mfg's containers or limit the different containers to that mfg's intermodal equipement.

I would like to know if many have thought of a cheap way of an O guage universal container attachment system.

I was considering implanting those N50 magnets on the bottom of the model container's corner castings. Any MTH or other mfg's containers that have pegs for holders would have those pegs chopped off/sanded down and rely on the magnets implanted in each corner casting. What do you think? how should they be mounted- all positive magnetic sides facing down and negative magnetic sides facing up?

I've used that sticky putty that is sometimes used to hang posters on the wall.
Tear off small pieces and mold them into the recesses of the under side of the container and then stack on top of another container. They stick just enough to keep from falling off and the putty is easily removed.
Doesn't work for containers on spines though

In G gauge, all the manufacturers seem to use couplers that don't get along with another one's. Each RR has to chose how to deal with it. Not only what brand, but how high they're mounted, etc.

On my O gauge intermodel, I keep each brand's container with that one's cars. Seems like if you want to mix, the size alone would be a bigger issue. I have car's that don't allow other brands to fit?

I'm interested to see how you guys solve this. Aren't the Lionel's shorter than the Atlas? Are some wider? (MTH?)
