With the unfortunate passing of QEll (l was hoping she'd make a 100), l wonder if there was any British steamer named after her?  I think there was/is a ship named after her.   My interest in British steam is generally confined to such as Ffestiniog, but this might be a time to think of British steam.

Two:

1. An aircraft carrier, sister ship to PRINCE OF WALES

2. A passenger liner/cruise ship usually referred to as the QE2

Not sure about one names Queen Elizabeth II, but in the 1930's the London Midland & Scottish Ry. had 4-6-2 engines built at Crewe that were named Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. The engine worked under LMS and British Railways until 1962. It has been preserved.

Hornby's 1937 O scale model of Princess Elizabeth was something of a high-point for Hornby O. It was seen as the first mass-produced full-scale O gauge British engine, and has been viewed over the years much like US modellers and collectors regard the pre-war Lionel 700E Hudson.

As I understand it the QE2 is the second ship named after the first Queen with the name Elizabeth (whose formal title was Queen Elizabeth I).  The QE2's formal name is "Queen Elizabeth 2" and there was a first ship, the QE, before it.

Therefore QE2 is not a ship named after this most recent queen, Queen Elizabeth II.

Odd, and confusing, but apparently true.
