It just goes to show that S does have some variety.  And I really like that invisible paint you used on the catenary system.  Really cool !!  (more grins)

Now try this:  The N&W J running alongside the Southern PS-4.  Like challenges, eh?

"S"miling.....Ed L.

You're a mean one, Mr. L...

"My opinion, worth what you paid for it, is that the 3-rail trains simply ran a lot better and more reliably over time.  Every AF boy in the neighborhood had continual trouble keeping things running well.  Size did not matter back then to the typical ten year old.  Running is what counted.  Even the 2-rail O scale trains (with outside 3rd rail) were very popular much earlier before S scale got "invented".  So history and numbers favor the O size above S."

Hi Ed, That explains why O scale  is more popular than S scale but if it's true by the same reasoning S scale should be out selling HO and N scales( S is closer to O scale than HO or N scales are) . I think the more likely reason is no one with deep pockets has taken S scale under their wing and developed it like Irv Athearn did for HO and MTL did for N scale and Bachman did for On30. SHS and American models gave it a good shot but didn't have the staying power to push S scale over the hump. A good gauge of the credibility of a scale's manufacturer support is if Atlas decides to get into it and so far they've never had the confidence to promote S scale. We really need someone to come along who wants to take scale train sales away from the other scales and not be so vested in them like Lionel and MTH are. Ideally  Bachman would decide they've  milked the On30 line about as much as possible would be looking for new pastures to graze ? ....DaveB

Please...

Bachman makes G, 3-rail O, On30, HO and N.  Seems pretty vested in other scales to me.  Making S wouldn't compete with their other product lines?

Atlas?  Not a chance.  They've got enough issues delivering O on time right now.  Plus, they're also vested in HO and N.
