Irony, Serendipity. whatever. Rumaging through my old railfan days photos and found a photo I took in 1986 of C&O GP35 #3566 at Riverside Shops Baltimore, MD. Twenty some years late I own the Atlas model and get to "drive it" whenever I want

Love it Ralph!
Definitely serendipitous!
that's cool. wonder if the real one is still around.
That's cool. Nice pics.
Roots and likes run deep. This is a good example of it.
I never really quite grasped the concept of irony:
One of the things I liked to do was see if I could track down prototype photos of locomotives I own. A lot of times I'd get lucky. Right now I'm working in reverse and converting a couple of locomotives I own to match prototypes.

Doubt it. The date of the photo (1986) is telling - it's well into the Chessie System era yet the original paint and reporting mark persists. This is a likely sign that this unit is destined to be scrapped or otherwise disposed of. A handful of GP35's survived into CSX but the majority of them were converted to road slugs.
First, Ralph, as you have a good photo of the real thing in "as used" condition, I hope
to see the model's roof painted aluminum and appropriate weathering of the body done.
No excuses, now - it would look so much cooler.
Second, to the "I wonder" question: this data is available all over the InterWeb (where we are right now...), y'know.
It took me under 5 minutes to find out the following:
Per trainweb.org/emdloco:
C&O 3566 ser# 29398 blt 1964, rebuilt to slug CSXT 2228 (date?)
Now that is cool. That is very, very cool.
