My understanding is that whatever iOS version is deployed at the time of the app's development, that's the level of iOS that is the "base level" for operation of the app. If that's correct, then if the LCS app was in development when iOS6 was current, then it would be able to work under iOS6 or later versions of the OS.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than am I of this subject will comment further.

I have no idea at all what is the policy as regards Android development, or if there even is one and who sets it.

If you are an Android user you can download the bluetrain app for controlling your TMCC trains.
I have it installed on two of my android tablets but currently can only use one at a time with the bluetooth adaptor.
Bluetrain is also compatible with the LCS wifi adaptor. Hopefully the wifi adaptor will support multiple android devices.

Well JMRI offers this solution already coupled with WiThrottle app on the ipad. My setup works quite well giving me a full graphical representation of my layout, just tap a turnout on the screen and it throws and indicates the direction on the app.. Having the throttle on my iPad is nice for switching trains and i can build a roster complete with photos. Lionel's app will not fit my needs since my layout is quite large and will not really fit well in the interface and from what I gather about the MTH app it will be more or less a glorified remote and if this is the case i have no need to make my remote 5 times bigger than it already is

Sure I will.   Not as a replacement for current things, but just something else fun to play with.

It's not an either/or proposition with any control system you choose to use.  I have Legacy and DCS and I still run conventionally now and then.

The iPad app, to me, is just another fun thing to play with.   It won't replace anything.

If you already own an iPad, the "entry" cost for playing with this is pretty much nothing.

Then there's the luddites......
