I have read several of the LCS wi-fi and  iCab threads but could not figure out if it possible to control a DCS engine on a Legacy only layout that is equipped with LCS wi-fi and an the iCab app on an iPad.

Or is this something that won't be possible until a 3rd party creates an app do control MTH engines with iCab?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

thanks!

T4TT,

Let me fill in a few blanks for you, DCS P2/P3 engines were never engineered to be controlled by TMCC remotely, except in a conventional manner, however TMCC & Legacy engines can be controlled by the DCS remote control.  The best way to run at this time is to actually own both systems.  IMO in the next 2 years MTH via independent contracter will completely blend the 2 remote control systems, and Lionel will drive even further on into to the Legacy control world.  Right now however for best running results, you must own both systems even though DCS controls most parts of TMCC/Legacy engines, already.

MTH's control system is proprietary meaning that the control variables to control aspects of the engines are not publicly known. Lionel made their control variables known so DCS was able to copy them and then use then in their DCS system.

Thus, so while DCS can control LIONEL; the reverse is not true. Except that their are certain control aspects in Legacy engines that DCS has no equivalent for like the quelling whistle. So that functionality does not translate into DCS.
