I'm not looking for a pros or cons of ScaleTrax here. I just want to know if MTH is still producing ScaleTrax.

I sent them an email through their website but so far no answer. It's only been about 4 days so maybe I should just wait longer for a reply.

Some dealers carry a few random parts but I suspect that that is old unsold product. I hope I'm wrong.

Installing it now. Best 3r track out there if you can find it. Looks real. Thin blade center rail, ties look real, rails are I type. Have to mix Atlas O 036 curves and G.G. switches with it due to lack of availability. This is tricky. Using this method is suggested mainly for the advanced modelers. Been colleting it over the years. Can drybrush the ties for wood highlights as well.

Too bad Atlas didn't acquire the tooling and offer a 'hybrid' track utilizing their ties and MTH outer rails and center blade. Years ago I made up a few sections of this blend and it looked fantastic!  Great prototypical tie spacing and the low profile of ScaleTrax gave a very good visual presentation. Atlas is excellent but the rails are far oversized for O scale appearance.  A combination with scaletrax rails should save $$ due to using far less metal material with the smaller rail. Oh well...

Whatever John..............

What in the world got the bee in your bonnet?  You offered up an opinion that you'd like to see them change the appearance of the track.  I offered the opinion that I doubt it will happen for a variety of reasons, and I so stated.  Then you seemed to get in a snit because I didn't agree with you?

First off, think about the folks that have ScaleTrax, I suspect a lot of them would be unhappy if it suddenly changed in appearance!  Currently, MTH is running very lean, there are only a handful of folks running the whole show.  I'm pretty sure they're just trying to keep their head above water using the existing tooling they have and pushing out product.  I know Rich gets tired of changing hats throughout the day for all the different jobs he has!  The thought that they'd change an existing product like ScaleTrax when there's no real demand to do so certainly seems pretty farfetched.

I have talked with Rich foster several times, including October 2022 York, Along with my local dealer who deals with MTH in person weekly. Both my Dealer and Rich gave me the same answer. "It is a possibility but not currently, maybe in the future." I personally love Scaletrax. I can be made to work with any other brand but will require some real tweaking. After talking with Rich several times I do not expect to see it made at least for a few years if then. Sad As I  know they went ahead and committed to manufacturing  Realtrax. Anyhow I will keep wishing. As for Cabin Fever Auctions I watch them closely and most switches are 031. Also other than the o31 switches and the crossing any track seems to go pretty high.

Thank you very much for this response. It's up-to-date information and goes right to the heart of my initial question.

Kudos.

I had originally planned to use ScaleTrax before I started my layout. I had watched all of Rich Bautista’s videos on working with it and created a track plan with SCARM.

Then the bottom dropped out when I started to have trouble sourcing the track, and then shortly after that MTH announced their “going out of business” now turned reorganization. Other than a few samples I purchased to experiment with, I gave up on buying it.

I really do like the way it looks and it was priced competitively. The lack of curve options didn’t bother me because the flex track was so easy to work with.

I’m heavily invested in Ross (and some GarGraves) now so I doubt I would purchase any more, other than for displays. One thought I had was to use it in my yards to give the impression of a lighter weight, lower grade rail there, in comparison to the high-rail mainline.

another thing I’ve considered is replacing the center rail of the Ross track in the most visible portions of the layout with the center rail of the ScaleTrax, and using the left over “2-rail” ST for shelves, etc.

I had thought about redoing my layout with Scale Trax. SO 3 or 4 years before Covid hit, at the TCA York Q&A. I asked Mike Wolf if the were any plans to add additional pieces to the scale trax line.  Mostly Y switches and such.  Mike said "No" .  It seemed to me at that point, that they weren't going to be supporting the product anymore.  Scale Trax ballasted and weathered looks really great. That was too bad.
