Hello guys and gals.........

Is the sunset 3rd NYC Hudson have more details(piping etc) than the MTH's premier Hudson and Lionel's prewar 700E, postwar 773's, MPC's 783,784,785,786 and LTI's 700E-1, finally the latest version Hudson with all the bells and whistles ?  With so many Hudsons out there, its mind bogging!!  I am betting the Sunset 3RD Hudson wins hands down.  How do you compare to them ?

Hot Water is right. It is a stunning model, extremely detailed. It's also a great runner.I would like to find another one sometime.

I have twelve scale NYC Hudson's:

Three Lionel(J3a,ESE,Dreyfus),seven MTH(Five J1e,Two Dreyfus),one K-Line J1e and one 3rd Rail 'Super J".To my eyes, the 3rd rail stands above them all as far as 3 rail AC O gauge models go.The Koh's models are in another league altogether.

The award for most detail for the dollar goes to the K-Line J1e which can be found for

$350-500.

Here's a pix(3rd rail's).

My first O Scale steam model was a Lionel 763.  It is very sparse on details, but I still find it pleasing.  I suspect that for overall accuracy Sunset and possibly other brass importers would have the die cast models beat.  I have heard that the latest Legacy Hudson has an unwrapped boiler - no amount of piping would cure that.

I am a fan of the Lionel 700 stuff, and am planning to convert the 1-700E as soon as one drops in my lap.  The MTH version is quite nice, but has undersize cylinders.  The K- Line has sharper detail if you can handle U shape boilers.

If it were me, it would be the 1-700E.  If I were going for the most scale possible it would be Sunset.  I cannot afford Kohs.

The Sunset 3rd Rail model is hands down the most detailed Hudson in O-Gauge. However, if you want to differentiate between classes of Hudsons, then the Sunset model only dominates for J3a's. J1e's are what Lionel, MTH, and K-Line have proliferated. For that class of Hudson, the consensus seems to be that the K-Line model is the best in O-Gauge, with the only caveat being the unwrapped boiler.
