Is there any way to know if PS 2 has 1 mb or 2 mb memory

I think it's actually marked on top of the board, but if you upload the sound file to your computer, the software indicates the memory during the process as I recall.

YES I know about the computer checking when download a sound file, I meant is there another  way are the boards marked or a ic has a number on the memory chip or something like that. thanks for the info you supplied but I already new about the computer telling me!

Yes, the processors with Sharpe Memory chip are 2 Meg.  G

Look at the part marking on the memory chip which is the only large black chip on the exposed side of the larger processor board.  The marking will have characters like 28F800 or maybe 28F160.  The "8" or "16" tells you the memory size in Mbits.  This of course corresponds to 1 or 2 MBytes.

On the large chip on the bottom of the processor board, the word SHARP can be seen.  That is your 2 MB board.  These started to show up October 2007.
