HBO's The Sopranos .... a great show that had a pretty cool opening scene and theme, IMHO.

Is that an old elevated railroad bridge starting at approximately the 57-second mark of the video? What railroad built it?

RIP James Gandolfini. Wow, only 51 years old. Very sad.

jim,

after watching the clip a few times, all is in new jersey up to just before that RR bridge scene. I drove the NJ turnpike top to bottom for 6+ years in a 18 wheeler from every exit from the GW bridge all the way down to delaware. That RR bridge might be in Staten Island, or maybe on a parkway where big trucks are not permitted to run.

I could be totally wrong about this one if the bridge is another location besides North Jersey, but I'm guessing it's either WR (old Erie swing bridge over Passaic River on the Greenwood Lake branch), or Lyndhurst (former Lackawanna Boonton Line, now NJT Main Line swing bridge over the Passaic).  Both bridges are near Lyndhurst, NJ and appear similar to the one in the video, complete with a center swing section.  WR would be the best guess, since Lyndhurst is now painted blue.  However, I do have my doubts since I can't duplicate the view from the road seen in the vido with Google street view.

Looks like he starts out coming out of the NJ end of the Lincoln Tunnel.  That was

102.7 on the radio, which at the time was the most popular "classic rock" station

in NYC.  He grabs the NJ Turnpike, looks like he gets on the Western spur of the turnpike heading for North New Jersey.  Pizzaland is in North Arlington, NJ, so

whatever bridge you're looking for would likely be along that route.  A little

poking around with Google Earth would probably turn it up.

The scenes are set as if viewed from the drivers seat.

Therefore it would seem reasonable to me that the interior bridge shot of the truss bridge would be from an automoble not a rail vehicle.  The deck girder bridge immediately after it is the RR bridge. Those two scenes go by fast at :57--1:00

TV show bumper shots do not necessarily need to be accurately consecutive, it is only a setting theme loosly based on a commute.

Now lets get away from the fantasy world and get back to the real world of choo-choo trains.

As a health industry person I find it ironic to see these cigar smoking shots in a post noting this comparatively young persons passing.

The rail bridge at the 1.00 mark is definitely the WR Draw (swing type) of the old Boonton line.  You get that view while driving on NJ RT21.  The bridge in the background about the 1.04 mark of the credits is most likely the Upper Hack bridge which is the main line of the NJ Transit (old Erie main line)

Also the opening credits are not in any real order.  He goes from the Pulaski skyway  heading south to the NJ turnpike between exits 12 and 13 heading north and then jumps back up to Newark.

>>The rail bridge at the 1.00 mark is definitely the WR Draw (swing type) of the old Boonton line.<<

I concur!  Note the fieldstone support piers, indicating older construction.

The bridge he's driving through at 0:53 appears to be the Route 1&9 bridge over the Hackensack River.  (This is the alternate truck route to the Pulaski Skyway, which is cars only.)  Views of the skyway appear at 0:33-34 and 0:49.

Now... I thought I'd seen it all, but does anybody know where the "carpet giant" at 1:07 is located?
