I just bought the ps2 Katy Heritage SD70ACE on the famous auction site.  It was described as new when I bought it, and it looks like it was unused when I unwrapped it.  But when I unwrapped the snowplow and installed it, LOOK HOW FAR IT STICKS OUT!  Needless say, the Kadee couplers won't come close to clearing this.

Is it possible the seller sent me the wrong one?  Is this a factory defect?  Does anyone else have this loco and had this problem too?

I stumped if I should contact MTH and ask them to exchange the snowplow?

Any ideas?

Martin

Hi Martin,

The 1st production run of all the UP Heritage SD70ACe's had the 3-Rail snow plow. I had many emails to MTH about this issue. They produced a 2-Rail snow about 6 months later. Check with MTH and inquire about a new snow plow.

Several years ago I posted pictures of the two snow plows, one for 3-Rail the other for 2-Rail. There is a difference.

Frank

Good project for a 3D printer.

MTH has two different ones that I know of. They are the same overall look with different length mounting arms.

It would be cool to get a more aggressive looking plow with the tops curved a bit more. I think some roads have them on certain engines in pictures I've seen. I'm making one for my scratch build in G scale out of brass.

Swafford, the response from MTH is $5 plus $9.75 shipping/handling for the snowplow.

I think I'll just drill new holes in the snowplow I have to bring the mounting closer.

I would suggest that you give MTH a call on Monday. Ask for the snow plow for the 2-Rail SD70ACe.
