I picked up a decent 1960's Lionel SW-2 chassis, and would like to mount a very nice 635 shell that I have on hand, but only if it is the correct chassis.
Does anybody know the detailed characteristics of this loco?
Here are the features I want to match up:
headlight: 2-pin #19 bulb
motor: single axle drive, two position e-unit
couplers: dummy on both ends
frame: chemically blackened, with sheet metal fuel tanks (all one piece)
I have a second chassis that is almost identical, except that it is painted.
Did postwar Lionel ever paint those chassis, or do I have a repaint?
(I am guessing repaint)
For that matter, I have some Alco frames finished with black paint. Were they repainted, or did Lionel paint some of them?
As far as I know, both of these styles always left the factory with a chemically blackened finish, but I thought I'd ask.
