Are these just special paint jobs or will this be the new look going forward?

Just "special paint jobs".
They are sure keeping the toy train manufacturers on their toes!
That is the D&H (Delaware & Hudson) Heritage Unit. NS bought most of the old D&H from CP a few months ago.

No matter where your loyalties are, that's a great paint scheme.
I always find it interesting how our individual opinions may vary...that's what makes this Forum great!
Although I do agree that this is a nice-looking paint scheme--and will make for yet another cool O-scale model--I think it's a very poor attempt by NS at doing a D&H "Heritage" unit. Other than the blue and gray (which don't even appear to be the correct shades), IMO it bears no real resemblance to the D&H's classic "lightning stripe" scheme.
Don't get too attached, the unit is supposedly back in the paint shop to have the blue parts painted black. At the very least it is being modified at the request of a competing company.

I think you've been duped.
As many others have said on the other thread, I don't think this has anything to do with the D&H. For one, there are no D&H markings and two, it is clearly marked for "DC to AC".
It will be interesting to see the re-do.
Just a little food for thought. NS did not purchase all of the D&H from CP, just a specific portion. The D&H is still a subsidiary of CP. Maybe that's where the "closeness" to the D&H scheme creates an objection????
And, just for fun, back during the PC merger time line, the D&H had been rolled into a N&W subsidiary/holding company called DERECO. (This was, presumably, to help keep a connection to other traffic and keep the D&H competitive with PC. IIRC, both companies did not like the idea and were pushed into it by the old ICC.)
In the redo, not only were the yellow stripes on the nose changed to black and white, but the large blue NS logo on the side was changed to black.
Stu
Looks better to me, although on the nose I would prefer black stripes and a white horse.
They look great to me, but oh oh, better send them back look at the rust on those wheels? Looks like the Lionel GEVO"s.

Wheels and couplers (and steam loco side rods) are normally unpainted - makes it easier to see defects.
Do they plan to wash tem after each trip? I wonder how long before those light colors start looking grungy?
