Although not for everyone, Iowa Scaled Engineering has begun to take pre-orders for delivery in the June timeframe.  I just pre-ordered one having used it last year at Trainfest in Milwaukee.

The ProtoThrottle mimics a standard EMD control stand including full detent throttle and reverser handles, a spring-loaded horn handle, a push-on/push-off bell button, and fully programmable front and rear headlights with a setting for ditch lights. In addition, the ProtoThrottle comes with a robust faceplate machined from aluminum, including prototype bezels, and anodized to give the look and feel of a real control stand.

"That’s one impressive piece of hardware."Tony Koester

The ProtoThrottle is being developed in tandem with Scott Thornton of Designgrid LLC. Scott is responsible for the throttle’s aesthetics, faceplate mechanical production, and marketing.

As you mentioned. Not for everyone, but I really like this. Too bad it wasn't dcs  compatible . (maybe it is with proto-3??.    And yes a engine brake would  also be required along with the automatic  with different setting for a heavy / light train applying and releasing the brake.

It kind of makes you want to go DCC but I already a ton of DCS stuff. ( proto-2 ) I hope you do well.

I'm surprised there are no other posts.

No doubt.  When innovations like this come out, really hurts the heavily segmented O Scale community, however, on the positive side, perhaps MTH and Lionel are working on their own variations that will work with DCS and Legacy?

I used one today on an HO layout ….. it IS friggn' cool!

Using it for switching operations, combined with all the features that modern DCC decoders have done for HO …. I think it's pretty awesome.

Hopefully the two Atlas end-cab switchers that I have on order do indeed ship next year …. I'm going to be eager to buy one of these throttles myself. Maybe the price will drop after this initial release and after Christmas?
