My Dad bought the Western Maryland coal hopper and I bought the Saskatchewan covered hopper. Both have the same issue. The trucks are mounted too high, causing the truck frames to rub on the hopper frame and the black step when you turn the truck. When the hopper is sitting on a flat surface, you can also see the inner wheels do not touch the surface. He got his in store, I got mine online, both are the same. We went to exchange his, and noticed that all the hoppers in store were the same. Has anyone else run into this? If so, any advice on how to fix it?
I've attached a photo where you can see the step and hopper frame pushing down the truck.
I've seen much praise here for these cars, and looking at the pictures posted here, they don't look like they have the same problem. I'm wondering if they just had a bad batch of the truck assemblies.
Also, I ordered 2 box cars, and both had the same problem. On the underside of the frame, there is a bent piece of metal with a small plastic tank. On both cars, the tank hung low enough to contact the center rail and the rails on switches and crossings. I've got several other boxcars, and those do not have this issue either. Fairly disappointed in the quality of these recent purchases.
