So I'm trying to test out one of my new diesels I got from York last year, and I'm having some trouble with it. Originally when I first started it up, it was in neutral like it should be, but then it wouldn't go forward when cutting power to the track. It did this a few times, so I put it on Program real quick, and when I gave it power, instead it moved forward, rather than starting in neutral. It still did this even when I switched back to Run mode. Also it seems like the sounds are a little gargly for a second when it starts up. I have no command control of any sort, and I am trying to run this on Ross/Gargraves track, powered by a Z-4000. This locomotive has TMCC, and was made in 2001. Is there a way to reset the locomotive without needing the base, or do I even need to reset anything at all?

TMCC locomotives normally start out in forward when first powered up, there is one exception to that rule. If they've just run in command mode, they remember that and the first power cycle with no TMCC track signal present they will start in neutral. Any following power cycles they start in forward.
Ok, so when I briefly switched it to Program, then that probably made it forget it was looking for TMCC in the first place?
The PGM/RUN switch locks the locomotive into a single direction in conventional mode if it's placed in PGM.
Gave it another test run today. When I cut power, it doesn't cycle the E-Unit, just restarts in forward again. Also, it seems to speed up for a fraction of a second when going over my O72 switches. I don't have a battery inside of it, but I know this isn't PS1 or PS2, which needs the battery to cycle through the positions anyway.
