What are the contents of all of those barrels at Caribou?

Interesting scene.

The caption for the picture says that there were 50 trucks with barrels of starch. I thought the trucks were at the station waiting for a train but the caption says that they were for a starch factory. Oh well, so much for the starch train.

Peter - now that is certainly a unique carload sitting on your team track for sure!!   Looks like this car may have started out with a full load of 5 bottles.  If so, I wonder what happened to the other two bottles?? Perhaps the railroad police need to investigate?? OR perhaps those two bottles have already been off loaded and consumed by the consumer??? Your photo insights lots of curiosity!!!

Bob - Very informative photos!!!  The origins of the term " team track" with the teams pulled up next to the boxcars.   Could these be the first railway automobile carriers?  As always, thanks so much for your informative contribution!!

Hey Fred - Those barrels could be loaded with maple syrup, given the station is Caribou.  My imagination says the trucks are waiting for the way freight to finish switching the team track ( s ) so the newly spotted empty boxcars can be filled with these barrels.   Thanks for posting this photo!!!

Pat....I run a 30 car Tropicana train pulled by 2 MTH E-33 electrics(Conrail & PennCentral). I have a small train pulled by an MTH NYC GP-30 which consists of this gondola with a few more bottles, an MPC Vodka reefer, and a KLine flat with OJ containers (and a NYC caboose).....the screwdriver express.

Mark - great post!!  I like how the brush and tall weeds are growing around the base of your loading platform!  The leaning pallet gives nice enhancement too!

You've created an impressive scene on the loading platform.  I also like the B&O outside braced B&O boxcar!
