Here is a 1954 booklet from Lionel that describes how to hook up various accessories, wiring, and maintenance of equipment.

Not really. General rule of thumb:
Gear: grease it
Bearing/bushing: oil it
Track: Clean it.
What about the K-Line blue book, COMPLETE SERVICE MANUAL FOR LIONEL TRAINS, copyright 1978, reprinted 1982. Or Greenbergs, REPAIR AND OPERATING MANUAL FOR LIONEL TRAINS, 1998 by Kalmbach Publishing, basically the same thing as the K-Line book, but in soft cover.

One comment about track cleaning: Using the wrong solvent or scrubbing medium can cause more problems than "dirty" track! I have personally found that "less is more" regarding cleaning with both my tinplate track and my LGB track. When I had both TMCC and DCS, they worked fine without ANY track cleaning. Just my take.
