Hope you can see what the problem is on the truck with the motor.  Bought in 91or 92, at a

Greensburg, show.  and put back in the box, when we moved, around '94.  however, I was

not made aware ( when removed ) from box just 6 months ago,  of it hitting something ( probably kids and the floor), but I replaced it quickly

from th bay, several months ago.      I do not have a clue, what can be done with this, since I have

another SD-9, ( ARR )  and have built up an Alaskan consist.  I dont need another (ARR): SD-9- I think !!    Motor works!! Lights come

on when it sits on Track.

thanks

Chance are good it isn't broken and that you'll find all the mounting hardware inside the cab.

This was a poor late 1980's design from Lionel. It basically used the same method that they normally employed to attach their die-cast six-wheel trucks, but these are made of an engineering plastic (likely Celcon). As the plastic ages and shrinks ever so slightly, it no longer has the friction necessary to grip the 8376 locator tabs and the truck falls loose just as you show it.

Lionel has an exploded diagram on their website (you might need to look-up 18806, 18808 or 18811 -- it'll be under one of those numbers) that shows you how to reassemble with the correct parts. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything to "fix" as it was designed in this fashion, and it'll just happen again. But there are two things you can do going forward:

1) When lifting the locomotive, always grab it by the trucks!

2) Using Superglue (CA) or equivalent, build-up a small area on either side of the 8376 locator tab where it presses into the truck. This will increase the area that the trucks grab onto, which will result in a tighter fit. You won't be able to glue the truck itself as these glues won't work on engineering plastic.

I hope this helps.

I just hope those locators, are just back ordered.

Already on web-site, and I was wondering about hands on the trucks with

the replacement sd-9, -- Kids have grown up also

thanks

Before you order the parts, just make sure that they're not inside the locomotive cab. The only real way for those fasteners to come loose is to spring into the cab, and not into your environment. I've been there and done this recently!
