This is more general topic than specific 3 rails but still train related trying to save layouts.

Northern Iowa has been deluged with torrential rain the past several days which of course runs into rivers that overflow and flood areas.  The flood swell moves down the river(s) to our town Cedar Rapids.  We had the massive June 2008 flood , so we are about to deja vu it again this coming Sunday Monday Tuesday.  The prediction is not as high as 2008 but several restored historic downtown building will drown again.

So I will be helping several low lying area friends packup their layouts (again) and move it to higher grounds.  At least it is HO but their rebuilt layouts won't be saved unless we sawzalled them and have alot of grunt power to move pieces.  I will be contacting several O gaugers to see what their situations are.  What a unhappy mess.

If it flooded where we live it would be an epic Noah's flood.  We did lose power but the genset kicked in and dual sump pumps have been running flat out, so our basement layout is safe.

And more rain is on the way just to add to misery.

An update

The predicted crest has been steadily revised downward. The city has had four days to prepare so may not be as bad as it was in 2008.

Helped two people pack who thank goodness are now outside the flood zone.  On the bright side there were a few "oh thats where that car went!" exclamations.  As well as "Wow didn't realize I had so many cars/engines packed away" (HO).

So alls well that ends well, except for those watching the water creep up the sidewalks/streets and across the lawns.

We packed up and ran from floods by the Arkansas river several times as a kid.  Tried as best I could to locate high enough to try and avoid that as an adult.  I wish you and your friends the best in saving what you can.  Only thing worse is a tornado which gives little warning.

Please post back with some pictures of your efforts.  Things like this make America great.

We are in another high up town so we are OK.  Have not contacted Merlin at Caboose Stop so don't know store status.

Here is a link to a webcam focused on Cedar Rapids downtown area. As of 9/27, water still not over banks into downtown yet, expected this afternoon.
