Started putting my dad's 3236 back together. Bob Hannon did the windings.
I broke a tap . when tapping stand off. So replaced with a number 8 bolt. Ives used a rivet then a spacer over that.
Used no. 4/40 screws. To hold field besides the no. 8.

For anyone with 3236. The armature has to much play. Bob hannons fix is to put this sleeve and a fiber washer . cut tube so that the armature spins freely.
I looked at another 3236 I have and that armature has about 3/16ths or more of back and forth play. And the comutator hits the brush tubes. Only thing that keeps it off are the brush springs.
Haven't received washer yet will up date when ready to assemble.
Side to side movement is not a concern on spur gear motors since there is no thrust from the gears. The brush springs will push the armature against the gear side of the frame. The only concern I have seen is if the windings get too close to the gear side of the frame where they could rub through and short. In that case, I shim the gear side.
My thought was the gears. Not running true. With that back and forth.
But I think Bob has had motors where the comutators have hit the brush tubes and have wiped out the comutator
Looking great! Unfortunately I don’t know the answer to your color question. Have you checked the Ives Society website for pictures or a clue?

Looking good!
beautiful work!
Thanks guys.
Should have it together tomorrow.
Very nice work! Are the headlights original? They have an interesting shape.
Thanks Bob
My dad made them.. I need to get a rear light bulb.
He had this ives since he was a kid. In the 80s. When he was fixing it. Parts for ives weren't around.
Something must of happen with the headlight sockets.
The wheels are larger. But I just put a spacer in to move pick up plate down 3/16ths of an inch.
If you look at coupler. He put 0 ga knuckle couplers on.
