Thanks, at long last I'm building a 40 year old dream.  I began drwing track plans in high school and that was a day or two ago.  This is "first cover", that is get the basic landform then details to come later.   I can tell you it's much more difficult since they botched my right eye in "catarac surgery".  Dan, I so appreciate your willingness to help!  Rusty, Bill, how I wish we lived nearer each other!

HO is too small. O takes up too much space. S Scale is big enough to see and work with, and gives you lots more "real estate" than the same size O Scale layout. Some would even call S the perfect scale

(BTW I have tons of HO and a lot of O, but my heart belongs to S )

Hey John,

I've been offline for a few weeks getting some things done so I missed the beginning of this thread.  All I can say is "WOW" your layout is really coming along. You've accomplished a great deal in the past year+ which shows what dedication to the cause will accomplish. "S" scale seems to be coming into it's own (finally) and new layouts like yours are the reason why. Nice job!

BTW, whose semaphore signals are you using?  It looks great!

John,

Looks great man!  Would you be kind enough to post more details about how you do your benchwork?  From what I can see you use alot of 2" foam sheets.  I'm curious to hear how you like it.  I generally like 3/4" plywood, and build up elevations with foam, but you seem to use it almost like a table top.  It seems easier than what I've done in the past.

Thanks Alan!  Troy, I've used 2"  foamboard for 15 years.  There is solid 1x4 framing underneath.  Usually I cut the foamboard along the track plan but this time I'll use almost all the foam for hidden staging ans scenery, and a bit of Sn3.
I always rush to get facia around the framing so Dan or others can't see what a rotten carpenter I am!
