For those of you who read about Lake Superior Ore docks last week, you may remember that OGR Member john23 will be in Marquette's south harbor this weekend, with the largest research vessel on the Great Lakes.

I found these postcards of john23's old railroad, the Marquette & Huron Mountain at Big Bay, MI, and an older photo of the Marquette South Harbor, where john23 will be docked.  The harbor photo is circa 1950's, the way I remember Marquette  during my many visits in childhood.

Cool photos! The Big Bay depot in the first photo has been turned into a motel, and we stayed there a few years ago. The tracks are long gone, of course.  Here is some info:  http://www.exploringthenorth.com/depot/lodge.html

Big Bay is also known for being the setting of the 1959 movie "Anatomy of a Murder", with Jimmy Stewart, Lee Remick, George C. Scott and Ben Gazzara, and is the town in which the murder actually took place:
