I remember Strohs Brewery. I use to pull for National Can Co.  delivering a load of cans there.  Remember the drivers waiting room had a tap in the wall and glasses on a table.   Bet brewery's don't do that anymore.

Strohs use to make  premium ice cream also.

As is the tradition in brewing in Germany, there was indeed free beer at the brewery, to begin with for employees at lunch. And as Clem has pointed out, truck drivers as well.

My Dad learned first hand that it also extended to construction workers from outside firms who happened to be working on the plant when his company took on a major upgrade project there.  This was in the early 70's if I remember correctly.

I think the free beer lasted until the nationwide drunk driving crackdown became serious in the early 80's.

Although the brewery is long gone, torn down, the ice cream plant is still in operation as far as I know.

My aunt was a secretary in the executive offices back in the day, and my neighbor, a G Scale afficianado who has a nice collection of suitably sized Stroh's reefers, worked in IT there until very near the end.

For a good article on the Stroh family, the company's history, and how the end came about, follow this link:

Ah, Stroh’s… as a teenager growing up in Cleveland in the 60’s and early 70’s, Stroh’s was a right of passage. Back then, inOhio an 18 year old could legally purchase 3.2% alcohol beer. Stroh’s was available everywhere and was cheap. We didn’t care if the alcohol content was lower than regular beer; to us it was nectar of the Gods. Boxcar is beautiful.
