I try to buy most Family Lines/Seaboard System items out there as they are few and far between yet colorful. The new MTH Railking MP15 does not disappoint in terms of fit and finish and decoration. Pics...

Agree!! Really nice detailing for a Railking engine...…..
Jesse
Very nice indeed!
Very nice, clean lines. Thanks for posting the pics.
I can't believe this is Railking. MTH went above and beyond with the details on this engine. It even has windshield wipers! Hope you enjoy It.
Excellent model!
ITs AMAZING how much detail those MP15's came in the railking line HOWEVER the conrail unit done a few years ago was done sub par! Not even the paper air filter box was modeled!
Wow! The level of detail is stunning. My SW1500, at which I am staring, pales by comparison. The windshield wipers are nice BUT how about that glazing material? I've never seen that on a RailKing model before. The see-through grill work is another surprise, RK engines seldom, if ever, offer that feature!
MTH, if you're listening, please start issuing switch engines in your Premier line. It is a very short hop from this remarkable RK example to Premier level, perhaps some 2R-3R trucks and maybe even a "scale wheel" version?
Mike W, you've pushed me over the edge and I'm now driven (fan driven) to get the BRC version. Thanks!
I continue to be impressed with this MP15...ordered direct from MTH and exceeds expectations. Needed something to pull my Family Lines hoppers. I grew up with Southern being the dominant railroad in the western part of SC but SCL served branch lines in the area. They stuck in my head as beautiful locomotives yet were abandoning every bit of track they could.

Sorry to ask this question...but, is that "paint scheme" or livery for the rolling stock which I believe is an MTH coke hopper...accurate in any way...was there ever such a car? How does that scheme make sense?
Not trying to be argumentative...just a little baffled.
The Coke Hopper is 100% accurate. Much like transition Conrail etc I think the SCL/Family Lines ended up with some variations. Perhaps they were tweaking the "Family" concept to condense the partnered rail lines branding. All those rail lines in the square were now under one "family." Then re-branded yet again to Seaboard System. See pic of real hopper. I love the transition schemes.

Okay...thanks...looks like they bolted two different cars together....to me...weird.
Looks great! I have two LIRR MP15’s from a special Nassau Hobby run. Love em.
The Railking MP15AC (never seen the DC model up close) and RS1 are the best bang for your buck in O. No one will convince me otherwise.
Enjoy!

Thanks for posting the pics Mike. After looking at this diesel a dozen times, I just had to buy one.
Late 70's , early 80's will work for me. All as newly painted, little dust only.
I got the last one from Charles Ro for 299. Ro's prices are always the lowest even with dealers so called free shipping which is built into the price. Don't be fooled.
Also sent other photos to Andy at MTH. Couldn't find a caboose for this diesel. Other items never offered yet by MTH either...
Atlas O acf
Maybe I should look for some scale palm trees and sand too, LOL!

Can't find it. 30-91590, too old now.
Atlas O is coming out with this NE-6, which might be an option for you. Presently they are on pre-order at Public Delivery Track, and others. Older Atlas O Family Lines cabooses include no. 6639 (the orange one) and no. 6688 (the grey one); they will probably be hard to find, but you can watch for them.
Thanks.
NE-6 was not seen at least around Tampa in my 30 years there. Not even sure the SCL had one?
I think I will buy the MTH black / orange F.L. EV when it is offered. I have the other one for now. It would be more universal for my operational time frame.
Thanks for the posting.
1091 and 1081 would be nice to have. As for Atlas, they are really hard to find. I just found the hi side SCL grain hopper after looking for several years. It was a shell on ebay. I have a bunch of AT trucks in stock for situations like this.
Problem with O is things come and go. I was probably collecting MTH subways when these cabs were offered. Probably didn't notice them back then.

Mike,
Can you post the MTH model number for that engine? I have to get me one to those.
Yes, this is a really beautiful diesel, thanks for all the pictures and good information. SIRT, I love your pictures and your weathering. Happy New Year Everyone.

Bout time for another visit?
Interesting that the catalog pic looks *nothing* like the as-delivered locomotive in terms of detail. Pretty plain vs. what we see above...
Passed up many catalog offerings only to like them when weathering customers items. Went back to buy some but most are sold out when I actually discovered how nice they were.
Bad marketing and sales as I see it. Train companies never actually make any effort in promoting the finished products. In most cases, even the few dealers left don't have the stuff. Plus MFG's don't have the newly offered finished products to display at major shows as well. On the spot buying needed, not wait 2 years to buy stuff unseen.
A few of us modelers / operators also want the car date listed as well to conform with the era it was operated in. We just don't buy items willy-nilly as often noticed. Every item has a historical place in R.R. time.
I think people would buy more seeing a full 360 deg. view of the finished product. I would like to see the heralds on the front and backs of engines. Like automobile sites, you can view the car of interest better.
Just noticed the subtle changes MTH has made to Waffle cars. I always frowned upon the fact that the cars are so high above the trucks on MTH. New cars profile are 1/4" lower now like Atlas O PS-1's. Also separate vs. old molded grab irons. Hidden un-couplers vs. thumbtack. Bet no one noticed these improvements on newer MTH models and they failed to shout it out either. The PS-1 50' box cars sure look identical to Atlas Master with out the heavy metal floor.
Need better product presentation going forward. Thanks to MR. M for taking a photo of the actual product he has for sale. Now that's marketing!
This really looks spectacular. If I didn't know better I'd say it was Premier. As someone else said, this and the RS-1 are probably the nicest models in the RK lineup. The L&N grey really makes yours look sharp. Thanks for sharing!
After seeing this thread I just couldn't resist trying to locate one for my railroad. Yesterday (1/2/20) I ordered the Family Lines (SCL) MP15AC, MTH 30-20594, from Trainworld. It shipped today and is scheduled to be delivered Monday. Online they appear to still have some (at least one) in stock. (For those interested in price: $319.99 plus shipping fees, specifically for my zip was $16.99)
After finding a Family Lines MP15AC I began to look for some Family Lines freight cars. At Trainworld I found a Family Lines tank car that was labeled as SCL. When I pulled up the pic of the tank car I saw that it was a Family Lines car with Reporting Mark SCL.
Though it is Rail King it seems like a nice reproduction

Just in...
New crew sounds, good but a bit stiff, pee wee league. I don't believe R.R. crews are that chipper? Should have been all two way radios.
Phosphate plant would have been more accurate than a mill.
ENGINE SOUND 9 selection in the remote is missing sounds.
Number board and interior lights shown in remote as a selection - Not a feature on an RK MP-15's
Headlight ps3 issue again. Had to turn it back on a few times.
I'll probably use it as a helper if the MTH SCL U-Boat is ever offered.

Saw the real thing as a kid.My school was right be side The SCL between monroe and charlotte n.c.There on the other side of the tracks was a rock quarry. Two gp9s would drop off about 20 cars and pick up loaded cars. They would do this in about 15 to 20 minutes.Only thing is they were smooth sided cars.
Yes, should be smooth sided, but it's another MTH cookie cutter car. Take what we can get in O. Never an issue in H.O.
I have an Atlas Family Lines caboose #1077 I could sell for what I paid for it.
Well done Steve, the engine and cars look great

I would definitely like to pay for a good Atlas Family Lines caboose, especially one with Clinchfield RR Reporting Mark.
It's on the buy/sell board.

Clint, Sorry for the delay...the MTH Model # is 30-20594-1. I am still amazed at the value here in detail and rock solid build quality. I ordered mine direct from MTH. They should still have some.
