Sometimes structures along the railroad can be perplexing as to their purpose. This one may be easy, though.
What is this? Extra points for "where is it?"

Cleaning gizmo, me thinks Amtrak DC. Why I think it is Amtrak, it not working.

Is that the CP (ex Milwaukee) lift bridge over the Mississippi at Hastings, MN?
If I'm correct you grabbed that shot from the back of the Builder on the way back to Chicago. Time of day, lighting and direction of travel allow me to get that specific.
Right you are, Elliot! From the Mount Vernon on the rear of the Builder, on our way home after that great trip that included a visit to your Dream/Nightmare Layout!
I miss those cheese-stuffed cheeseburgers.
Not sure if I can accept the extra credit on that Bill. It was sort of a slam dunk for me, and just about everyone else was at a disadvantage. It's in my back yard after all, and will be on my layout. I actually had to look at it a couple times before it hit me, DUH.
There are plenty of cheeseburgers left. The only thing missing is you.
