Before lubricating anything, remove the two nuts holding the brush plate. Lift the brush plate off gently. It may not be necessary to unsolder any wires. Then clean the commutator. Check both brushes and both brush springs. They may need cleaning or replacing. Put everything together. Put a drop or two of oil on the top of the armature shaft. Then use a needle oiler to put a drop or two of oil at the bottom of the armature shaft. Turn the armature a few times by hand to make certain it turns easily. Test it before replacing the body. It should produce a harmonious, smooth tone. There may be a dull gravelly (or hoarse) sound as the whistle starts and stops, but that is normal.
