Was able to find this beautiful model at my LHS (6-28377 #1870). I have been on a western railroad kick lately, specifically the UP and D&RGW railroads I have a vision of my layout encompassing a scene from the Eastern US and then a scene out west. Should provide a nice contrast and allow me to run a variety of motive power. Anyway, this is my second legacy unit, the first being a 2006 Chessie GP30, which had some issues out of the box. This model is simply buttery smooth in all aspects of operations. Using the DCS remote I run the loco in TMCC mode...and despite 32 step speed mode, the model can crawl at setting 1....without hesitation. Smoke unit is adequate, but my experience seems to show MTH units smoke a bit better. Sounds are outstanding and lighting is top notch. For those contemplating or hesitating running TMCC/Legacy on DCS, I can report Lionel Legacy runs quite well. Will I spring for the cab 2 or the cab1L Legacy system? Probably not. I'm able to run Lionel Legacy locomotives with most of the features I want to see using the DCS remote and the TMCC module integration so I'm one happy camper.
