just picked up a K line B&A Berkshire with TMCC and Cruise it does not appear to be run much.it responds to its address sounds and couplers all work but it crawls at about one revolution a min. took it to a friends house who has same TMCC setup as mine for him to look at it and it runs fine there. bring it home and still does not work. all my other locos ERR TMCC and legacy run fine. I am using a Lionel power brick and A TMCC base and hand held. Any Ideas. Thanks. Rick

The K-Line cruise has 3 settings for speed steps. 32,128 and 256. I tried the 256 once and it ran as how you describe yours. I don’t know what would change in the ride over and back to your friends house. If nothing else I’d play with the settings and you should see a visual change if nothings wrong.
32 Dir, Bell, Aux1
128 Dir, Bell, Aux 2
256 Dir, Bell, Aux 3
There should be a slide switch under the cab for Cruise Off.
K-line is tempermental with the tmcc earth ground. Make sure you have a really good earth ground on the outlet your command base is plugged into. Also, you could try running a ground wire along the track to improve the ground as others have done before. I've experienced this with my k-line cruise locos as well. All will run fine except them, and that has been the culprit every single time.
I would also check to see if someone has set the maximum speed set.
With the loco powered on, addressed and stopped, press "SET". The headlight should flash. Press "Boost" for one second and this should clear the maximum speed if anyone has set it.
Thanks!

I tried it again plugging the base into a ground fault outlet nearby and nothing changed. I would think if it was a signal problem I would have a flickering headlight. I then turned off the cruise and it will respond sometime but moves a few feet and the crawls or stops again. how does one check for a good ground on an outlet?

If you other engines are just fine with your setup, not likely it's a bad ground in your setup. If it runs just fine at your friends house and not yours sure is a strange behavior. Pull the shell off, make sure every board is seated, turn the flywheel make sure nothing is binding, loose motor. Make sure the antenna wires are connected to the hand rails on the engine and no pinched wires anywhere.
If nothing is out of sorts. Try shutting the cruise off. Try different cruise set settings as Dave mentioned above. If no joy, it may be time for a drop in ERR board. Kline cruise boards are not the best at longevity
FYI, Rick had his engine at my place yesterday. I was prepared to swap out boards but when we first put it on the track it ran as expected. No hesitation or glitches. Also tried all the speed steps 32, 128, 256 and it responded accordingly.
Stay tuned. I may have to try my controllers at Rick’s house.

In both scenarios at your layout and your friends. Was the Berkshire running without pulling cars ?
I agree with Gary, Kline cruise are notorious for going wonky, …..most of the time it’s an uphill battle trying to breathe life into them……you shouldn’t have to alter your house wiring for one locomotive. If others work fine, that ain’t the problem. Try programming it like Dave said, and if not, it’s time for a M …..

This is why I am looking forward to the new Soundtrax Blunami 4400 DCC decoders. I can upgrade the problem locos or old MTH with them and still run them on my 3 rail layout . never was fond of proprietary systems like TMCC and DCS. the DCC world has dozens of third party manufacturers that are all compatible. only down side with the Blunami is you have to use a phone or I pad as a controller. I still like a hand held.

More than just a few of us are too,…it could be a real game changer ….

I have a Digitrax DT601 Duplex controller and the DCS210 command station, because I like handheld remotes more than using a phone. I use Soundtrax TSU-4400 Tsunami2 decoders in my loco's on my 3-rail track, works great! All my upgrades/repairs going foward will be DCC. The Blunami 4401's should now be available.
Ok a second trip to Petes proved out it is my original TMCC base unit. we ran every combination of stuff all the hand held's his stuff and his legacy. looks like I might have to wait until the Base three becomes available or try and find a used TMCC base as I have two good hand held controllers. thanks for all the input.
