K-Line GG1 Upgrade Kits

First off, it depends on which exact model you have.  I had a K-Line GG-1 "Upgradable" locomotive, and the only concession to upgradeability to TMCC was the fact that the pantographs were insulated and could be used as an antenna!

You need to be more specific as to what you're starting with.

There are several K-Lines on the bay that are box labeled K2780-4892IC [...] Upgradeable To Lionel TrainMaster Command and Control and Lionel Trainsounds.

Then, there are K-Line TMCC Up-Grade Kit For K-Line GG1.   These kits are expensive and seem loaded with parts and components.   I assumed they needed complete integration to modify the GG1 to full capability.

I recently installed one of the upgrade kits to an ugradeable GG1.  The kit includes electro couplers, new brackets to mount them to the leading and trailing trucks, speaker, TMCC and Railsounds electronics, wire harnesses, new lights, and a new leading truck wheel set with magnet for a speed sensor.  The kit was easy to install and works well.  It does not include cruise control so the operation is not as good as modern systems but it is adequate. 

I bought this kit at a local show and the cost was quite reasonable, much less than ERR and Railsounds kits.  However, as I said it is not as capable as current stuff either.

Do you have a picture of this box?  Did not realize K-line had upgrade kit.

The other way to go is to create your own upgrade.  I finally got mine completed with Legacy, RS5.0 Sounds and electrocouplers.   At this point, once the train repair business slows down next Aug/Sep I can do the lighting.   G

I have the kit internal parts organizer but not the outer box.  I have attached a picture of the organizer and you can see the old couplers, the replaced leading truck axle and some of the replaced electronics.  The second picture is of the cover page of the 4 page instruction sheet.

K-line also  had a kit for the scale EP-5, although I have not found one.  I recently bought another kit that K-line released to upgrade the TMCC hudson to cruise control.
