Look here,

Use whichever one, just check all operations after doing the re-programming.

I had the same problem but I had one to compare. My issue was not the electronics but the value gears and cranks on the side. These were poorly designed and jam. Remove them and try your engine. I bet the engine will run. Maybe remove the motor and see if the wheels roll freely.  Mine bent to the point of not being usable. I was lucky to find parts, years and years ago.

John & Bill,

I recently purchased a K-Line Cruise Control update kit.  It contained a new motor with small, attached, IR ckt board, the MDK090 updated motor driver board, a new cable assy, a 'ScotchLock' connector, 2 nylon zip ties, 4 screws, 4 nuts and an instruction phamplet.

After speaking with Matt about his issue, I re-read the instruction manual and it says NOTHING about having to reprogram anything once the new parts have been installed.  Perhaps there was an addendum sheet that was left out of my kit.  I read somewhere on the Forum that if you do not 'tell' the R2LC that cruise control has been added; everything will work on the converted locomotive however, IT WILL NOT MOVE, which is the case with Matt's locomotive.

John, your compiled K-Line TMCC programming Tips PDF reiterates this 'NO MOVE' comment on the bottom of page 3.

It seems there should be a number of programming steps involved here if Matt decides to do a factory reset to clear out the cobwebs.  My question would be: In what sequence should these reprogramming sequences be done?

Could you make a step by step list for us?

Best,

Dave

Like I said, I compiled these from a number of sources, I haven't actually tried all of them.  I will say that I have a couple of engines with the K-Line cruise, and I did reset one when I had problems with these instructions.

The reset mentions not running in conventional mode if it's configured incorrectly, but it sounds like he's running in command mode, or at least trying to.  You can't trigger couplers in conventional mode.

Seems your at the point of having to switch out components.  R2LC first, than Cruise board.  You could temporarily use a DCDR (non Cruise) to see if it is the cruise board.

Sometimes Motor driver boards have the optical isolator, or the Triac/FET fail.  So it may be repairable if the driver board is the issue.

I have a DCDR and harness that came out of a K-Line if you need one for testing, and I could look at the Cruise board if you think that is the issue.  G

George,

I'm trying to help Matt and I myself am also interested as I have a Cruise Control upgrade kit (ver 4.0).  You said that your kit had a separate instruction sheet in the upgrade kit - mine did not.  Could you please post a copy of that programming instruction sheet on the forum for us?  Perhaps in the 'TMCC/Legacy Reference Materials & Manuals' sticky for all to see...  THANKS !!!!

Best,

Dave

George, we will.  Matt was just sent from Florida to "Nowhere, West By God Virginia" and squeeling like a stuck pig about the temperature.  Then it's on to Austin, Texas before he gets back to Florida where the locomotive is.

Once reunited with said loco, we'll try again with your instruction sheet in hand.

Best,

Dave

Well, yes its been a while but now that I am back I ordered 2 K-Line Hudson Cruise Control sets.. I used the Board out of one set and low and behold the Loco now moves.. On farther inspection of the original board the IC chip on the bottom has a scorch mark across the top that was covered by a wire.. so now the K-4 1361 Pennsy is in working order

I'm glad you got it working Matt.  As an additional follow-up to the successful repair that you made; you told me on the phone that standard TMCC reset for a steam locomotive of AUX1, 4 worked just fine and no special codes for Cruise Control were required. I made this addendum just in case inquiring minds wanted to know...

Best,

Dave

Matt, Would you be interested in sending me the bad board, I would like to see what is wrong and if it is repairable.  G
