Does anyone know if K Line produced any "add-on" cars for this 4-car set of 18-inch aluminum cars? I recently purchased the 4-car set but would like to add to it. I checked the Legacy K Line site and didn't see anything listed but thought I'd ask here as well.

Thanks

John

John,

Here's what I've found.  I think you're correct about the website.  I first saw them in a K-Line catalog that I picked up at a show a couple years back:

PennsylvaniaPass Car, StreamlinedObservationK4680-38424199918"Spirit of St. Louis, 'Alexander Johnston Cassatt' (Black/Gold Box)Aluminum#8424
PennsylvaniaPass Car, StreamlinedPullmanK4680-38060199918"Spirit of St. Louis, 'City of Reading' (Black/Gold Box)Aluminum#8060

You may want to check these though; they may already be in your 4-pack set.

K-line did indeed make a 2 pack of matching 18 inch cars for the Spirit of St Louis. I don’t have the car numbers handy but one was an RPO and the other a Pullman from what I remember.

I’ve seen the 4pack of 18 inch cars in both the yellow/ black and black boxes. Have only seen the 18 inch add ons in the yellow/black boxes.

I’d you’re looking for an extra long train, you can add the 18inch business car. It will couple no problem with the flat end observation.

Update:

The above are indeed part of the 4-Car set.  My mistake.

A little more digging however did get me to two additional 2-Car 18" sets:

1.) K-Line K-4680S -- 2-Car Set (Catalogued 2004)

     K4680-30009  Pullman "Cabin Creek"

     K4680-33600  Coach #3600

2.) K-Line K-4680T -- 2-Car Set (Catalogued 2004)

     K4680-34234  RPO #4234

     K4680-30011  Pullman "Tippecanoe Rapids"

I'd like to add these to my collection as well, sometime in the future hopefully.

Thanks guys; these are beautiful cars but I prefer trains longer than 4 cars. The hunt begins for the add-on cars!!

John, since the PRR often mixed up their passenger consists, you could widen your search for some of the other K-Line PRR 18” cars. There are some 2 and 4 car sets you could add to your Spirit of St. Louis set, such as the Jeffersonian or Broadway Limited sets. They are often on eBay.  You could even add in a Congressional car set too.

Good luck with your search!!

Thanks Mike!  I have the 18" Spirit of St. Louis and often wondered if there were ever any more cars produced.

Though my  K Line 18" extruded aluminum Lackawanna "Phoebe Snow" passenger train cars are not associated with the Penn. "Spirit of St. Louis" in this thread, I am again posting some messages from discussions concerning the existance of other K Line "Phoebe Snow" cars than the ones I own.  Possibly, some of the members who have access to the printed catalogues could help with the questions below.  Apologies in advance if this is a bit off the subject, but the Penn. car (18" aluminum) search is similar to my Lackawanna quest.

Golden Grail - K Line 18" extruded aluminum Lackawanna Baggage Car.  Still trying to determine if one was ever produced (uncatalogued or catalogued).

Associated quest - to find out if the same K Line 18" extruded aluminum Lackawanna "Phoebe Snow" car names/numbers produced in the first run were produced in the second manufacturer run.  First run was:

K Line 18" Aluminum Lackwanna "Phoebe Snow" passenger train consist:
Railway Post Office #1819
Coach #321
Diner #469
Sleeper "Tobyhanna"
Sleeper "Cohocton"
Observation "Tavern Lounge" #789

Does anyone know if K-line's 18" "Spirit of St. Louis" come with 15" baggage and RPO cars, or 18" ones? I know their 18" "Golden State" had 15" baggage and RPO cars. Or should I just throw a Weaver B60 baggage car in there?

PRR never owned any lightweight baggage cars (like the K-Line models), so a Weaver B60 would be much more accurate.
