Do kadee couplers mate with Lionel's? I am looking at a set of kits that use archbar trucks and kadee couplers. I would have to cut the car and shim to use lionel trucks..

Yeah, for the most part.

Run a search on Kadee couplers - there are many threads discussing that topic.

They don't mate. If you can find an old Intermountain Box car kit you can easily make a transition car. One with a Lionel coupler on one end and a Kadee on the other. The kit is set up for both

I tried to make the big couplers play nice with the Kadees and found they wouldn't stay together, could be my undulating trackwork, but 2 Kadees stay put fine.
