Along the lines of losing hobby and train shops. Ive heard through the rumor mill

that K&K Hobbies on French Road in Utica New York has closed it's doors.

Truth or not????

I know Bill had to close the Gun shop he had in the cellar because of all the

New York State regulations they imposed on them. He talked about at that time that

the hobby shop was not far behind. Gun sales were the majority of his sales.

Wow, that's a bad one.  Although a few towns away, it was my LHS.  I started to go there last week for some sorely needed Plastruct, paint, etc and postponed it.  My bad.

Sometimes ordering by mail just doesn't do it, and sometimes the prices needed to support brick and mortar store are uncompetitive.  It's a bad mix.

I'm very sorry to see the store close.  It had a good balance of things that interested me.  The people working there were very nice.

I always thought that the gun business was the money making part of the business, but didn't know for sure.  The hobby store was never really that busy when I've been there.

Too bad.  Was a nice store.  J & K Trains & Parts in Marlboro, NY, also closed its store on 5/31 and moved to the Dutchess Marketplace in Fishkill NY, the next day.  They are now open 10-6 on Sat and Sun.  They will continue to sell parts etc at shows and on line, and continue their service business.  The revised web site is up and running.

Wow,very sad news indeed! I've not been to the store in awhile due to other obligations and money constraints. I remember when they purchased the store on Sunset Ave in Utica which was at the time ran by an old man as a train store and swap-pawn shop and he had lots of old Lionel and MPC there.

They started there and then built the new store over on French Rd.  I always got along with George and Dan,Bill seem to rub me the wrong way kinda like the two brothers were at Madison Hardware from what I have read, lol.

Dan was very curtious and knew alot about the store and I also wish him all the best!!!

The last time I was there they did have alot of stock on the shelves.

They will be missed,Doug
