American Model Railroad Co. (Ed Alexander) is reported by Wills' to have offered a gas electric in late '30's as did a 1934!! Icken ad. Like to see photos of surviving versions of those models. Icken's is described as a Class B? gas electric. Wills also cites the Walthers familiar gas electric kit, identified as C&NW, as similar to a Burlington doodlebug. Any Burlington fan have a photo they can post of a prototype that is close to the Walthers model?

Hello Jim DeBruin has written articles about the Alexander / Icken and Walthers early diesels electrics found in O scale trains magazine .... here is a Fixen ..rather basic version from the mid 30's .... ...and a photo of the NYC model .

Hmm. Did Wills misidentify in his book, that clearly states "gas electric", which to me means doodlebug rail coach, while oil electric, to me, means early internal combustion locomotive, as shown above by Mr. Williams? Does this mean Walthers was the first gas
