Kemtron Wabash Mogul

I remember, way back when, when this engine was available and think I have the MR

issue that reviewed it.  I have seen one pop up on eBay at least once.   It always

made me think it was the right power for a one loco prairie grain short line.  Somebody should redo it, in 2 rail and 3 rail.

Thought the Wabash Mogul would make an excellent die cast offering for Precision Scale, since they still market all the old Kemtron parts for it (and perhaps still have all the dies or masters?). Suggested it to Mark at PSC but he thought there would not be enough interest in the project. My thought would be it would be quite succesful, like their narrow gauge die cast locos. But, it's not my money going into the project!

I don't think it was all that successful for Kemtron.

If you really want one, put a classified in MRR, and keep our host happy and put one in OGR too.  I have never failed in MRR, and I collect some pretty esoteric stuff.

I think I've seen at least three Kemtron moguls on ebay in the last year.  Usually go for around $500.  Neat kit and builds to a nice model, but the 1950s mechanism would likely need replacing if not already done in the last 50 years.

Found one, reasonable price.  Now to start planning my O Scale switching pike.  Going to handlay track & turnouts.

There is a kit on ebay right now that's listed as a Kemtron Mogul but it's not.  Looks more a Locomotive Work Shop to me.

You are correct assuming we are both looking at the same ebay item.  There may be a few Kemtron Mogul parts in the PSC packages, but that would be it.  BTW the Kemtron Mogul had detailed brass castings for the frame instead of machined bar stock.
