Hi Guys, It's me again trying to combine my love of toy trains with kids and kid's causes. My local club (which is based in Staten Island) is called North Central Kiwanis and among others sponsors an upstate camp called Kamp Kiwanis as well as youth golf competitions. I was wondering if any toy train companies were or are involved in disadvantaged children's causes? I am interested because it would be something that I could propose to my local club. By the way, my club is the first to sponsor an Autistic Key Club. We've had 2 Autism Proms so far. As you probably already know, I with the help of my local train club, put on an Annual Holiday Train Show each year the second week in December which draws big crowds of kids eager to tell Santa that they want toy trains around the Christmas Tree!

Alan and Charlie,

Are you guys members? AWESOME!!!!! Here is what I was thinking in line with the Kiwanis philosophy of helping disadvantaged kids I was thinking of putting a Kiwanis logo on a box car and marketing it to help raise money for kids that are disadvantaged (particularly our newly minted 6/23/2014 Autism Key Club) what do you guys think?

PS.

If OGR would sponsor I'm sure there would be room enough for our logo as well!

Any thoughts?

C'mon Guys and Gals,

I am not a creative person, I am an ideas person. Surely, there is someone among you who could design a decal? Then after we bought some plain box cars. If we had the appropriate pemissions, I'm sure we could do it. How about it, it's for a good cause!

If other's could do it for Breast Cancer, I'm sure it could be done for a Kiwanis Club!

Even if it were not the North Central Club!

Is there some creative interest out there?

(By the way I'm referred to as "Choo Choo" Mike)

Guys, Knowing that there are those among you that are Kiwanis members as well as OGR members is encouraging, but I know of one member who specializes in making templates(or designs) of things that could be decals that could be put on. My problem is that I cannot remember his name! Is he still a member? If anyone could remind me of his name that would be helpful! He is not necessarily a Kiwanis member. I haven' t seen his posts recently, is he alright? Mike Maurice

Mike-

Along the same line- We do an annual community layout, and although it is not directed specifically at disabled kids, our community is at the 39.6% poverty level, and that can be a disability in its own. We should chat about what has worked for our layout, possibly you can modify some of our thoughts to work with your project. I sent you an email with my contact info-

I am all about community service.

an outsider here looking in- but I have to agree with Charlie, as I am not sure what kind of interest there would be for this kind of car, especially as a fundraiser which means about $50 a car (+or-) in order to make about $12 a car. I believe weaver charges $38 a car.
What about something a little different, a billboard insert for a lionel billboard? I buy up plasticville billboard frames because they fit a business card nicely which is awesome for our community sponsors. Something that you wouldn't get locked in with a high overhead...
my 2 cents

Thanks Guys, You've given me a lot to consider! I somehow knew I could count on you for your support! At this stage the project hasn't even started yet, as I wasn't sure it was a good idea but considering all the support I've gotten from you, I know my heart is in the right place, with the disadvantaged kids and those of you who have responded! Thanks from the bottom of my heart, I knew you would be as motivated as I! Please forgive my I-Pad doesn't seem to work with spacing! Mike Maurice
