I was searching through the Forum to see if anyone had posted the dimensions of the KMT hopper, believe many come with a snap top to make it a covered hopper.

So, how big are they, near scale or more O-27 size? 2 1/2 inches wide?

I thought about picking up some if they are near scale.

Thanks, Dan

If this is the KMT (auburn) stuff that I am familiar with, I think the car is too narrow.   A friend of mine who models the C&O in steam wanted a fleet of offset hoppers.   He found these cars and checked them out.   He said the length and height were very good, but the cars were too narrow.   He would cut them in half lengthwise and then add a filler piece to get the right length.   He did quite a few of them that way.

Hi Dan:

The Kusan K-series 2-bay hopper is about the same size as the familiar Lionel post-war Lehigh Valley 2-bay hopper car.  It measures 8½” long by 2 1/8” wide by 2¾” high.  To clarify, the length does not include the couplers and the height is measured while sitting on a table (not track) from the wheel flanges to the top of the body.  Based on the classifications you used above, I would call it "O-27 size".

This mold was later used by K-Line and I believe is now being used by RMT.  I’m sure Walter will chime to let us know for sure.

HTH,

Bill
